I am learning to appreciate the double-entry journal more now. I don't think that it is very effective without asking specific questions. Those questions are key. Otherwise, it's almost just like a K-W-L, finding out what they know and what they have just learned from the lesson you taught. I will be excited to read the double-entry journals for the evaluation of my students.
I realized Monday, and things did not happen as I'd hoped with my lesson presentation, that I do not like using the Blackboard Collaborate for teaching. I don't see myself wanting to be an online instructor anytime in my future because you have to depend on too much in order for instruction to happen. There's already the inability to view facial expressions because you can't see the students (unless they choose to put up their video) and then you don't know if you have their attention (no eye contact or body language). You hope that microphones and speakers and computers and internet connections work, and that the program itself doesn't mess up (on your end and theirs). And then all the tricks and features on there...The pros? No matter where we are in the world with those supplies, we can get online with a bunch of other students and a knowledgeable instructor and learn from each other (and get credit for it). I'm not frustrated; I'm just learning. I would so much more rather sit in a room with a bunch of curious students, a lot of paper, and a lot of pencils (and a good pencil sharpener). Nice and simple.
It is the second to last week. I'm grateful for what I have learned and also grateful that I can get a break from writing lesson plans. ;)

I agree about the double journal, I had no idea really what it was before this class, so it was great to learn about it. I love doing the K-W-L, I feel like it is so great for students and will help them and the teachers in the long run. I am ready to get a break from lesson plans as well but I have 5 due next week haha.
